As many of you may have heard on the most recent horse husband edition of the Horses in the Morning podcast, I have been working hard over the past couple of months on the design of an image that captures the full spirit of what it means to be a horse husband. Working with several graphic designers, it quickly became clear that the ‘horse hubby’ concept is not one that is easily grasped or captured. A horse hubby is like pornography: we know it when we see it.
At long last, I am pleased to say that we have a logo!
How does this image capture what it means to be a horse hubby?:
- We are Proud. First and foremost, the distinguishing characteristic of a horse hubby (as opposed to a mere horse husband) is the fact that they have embraced the role as a part of their own identity. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. We are horse hubbies, and damned proud of it.
- We are in the muck. A horse hubby is not afraid to get their hands dirty. It is not their job or duty to do stalls or other horse-related work. We may or may not ride horses ourselves, but when the time comes and if the need is there, we’re not afraid to put on our muck boots, roll up our sleeves, and shovel some poop.
- We are good at holding stuff. It’s what we do best.
- We are good luck. Behind every good horse woman, there is a good husband. We support our wives in their insanity. We make them less insane at the same time as their insanity helps to balance our own. We are better people as a result of these relationships and in that we are very fortunate indeed.
A huge thanks goes out to the Horse Hubby Network, which functioned as focus group during the design process.
What do you think of the new logo? I’d love to hear from you. Let me know in the comments below.
